FAISALABAD, Dec 18: As many as 18 students, who were expelled from the University of Agriculture, have been restored conditionally to the campus by the Disciplinary Advisory Committee on Tuesday.

A source close to the vice-chancellor said the step had been taken by the university management after detailed discussion over the appeals and affidavits filed by the students and their parents.

The rolls of five students Talaat Mahmood Zahid, Abdul Jabbar, Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani, Sajid Mehmood Sajid and Imran Nadeem have been restored. However, their two semesters have been forfeited by the university management.

The remaining students, including Islami Jamiat Tulaba Nazim Akhtar, Inqalabi Council chairman Atiqur Rehman, Usman Safdar, Adnan Khalid, Muhammad Nadeem Irshad, Hamid Nawaz Shah, Usman Bashir, Irfan Nazir, Sahid Ali, Usman Riaz, Hassan Subhani, Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Yousaf have been restored with under observation for next two semesters.

If they are found involved in any violation of the university rules during next two semesters, they would be expelled from the campus. The sources said a formal notification would be issued on Wednesday.

The committee, headed by Dr Muhammad Younis, of the Livestock Management Department, had recorded statements of all the 18 students and called their parents and guardians to discuss the situation.

DAIRY LAB: A dairy laboratory will be set up at the Institute of Food Sciences and Technology of the Agriculture University for imparting training to manpower on modern lines and milk storage according to international standards.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the Strategic Working Group (SWOG) consisting of representatives from the American institution, J. E. Austin Corporation, Smeda, Agriculture University and the Punjab food department here on Tuesday.

The SWOG is working in Pakistan for providing latest techniques in dairy sector so that the country could meet the modern era requirements. The meeting also discussed up gradation of the Institute of Food Sciences and Technology into a centre of excellence. The participants highlighted the progress of the plan and exchanged views in this regard.

University Vice Chancellor Dr. Bashir Ahmed said that efforts were being made to start degree and diploma programmes in dairy sector in the institute so that the students could be imparted training to meet the WTO regime. He said university scholars and the food department officials had prepared joint research plans.
