LAHORE, Jan 11: Four gunmen snatched Rs600,000 in cash from a businessman in Jehanzeb Block of Allama Iqbal Town on Tuesday.

Jan Muhammad told police that he was on way home after calling off his business when the armed men intercepted him and snatched the money and his cell phone. They also thrashed him when he put up resistance.

Usman Rashid withdrew Rs426,000 from a bank on Empress Road and was on way home when two armed men snatched the money. Two gun-toting men deprived Saeed Ahmad of Rs350,000 in Gulberg after he withdrew the amount from a bank on the Main Boulevard.

Pakistani and foreign currency worth Rs150,000 was snatched from Omar Raza by two gunmen in Township, while as many robbers took away Rs69,000 from trader Nazir Ahmad inside Masti Gate.

SOLVED: Gulberg investigation police claimed on Tuesday to have solved the mystery of a murder. The body of rickshaw driver Nooruddin was found from his rented house at Gulbahar Colony in Gulberg-III eight months ago. No clue was found and the case file was closed, said police.

They said last week they found some clues and arrested Talib Husain, who confessed to committing the crime. The accused told police that the deceased had won Rs2,000 in gambling from him.

For some weeks, he said, he could not pay the money. The day when the incident took place, he added, the deceased hurled taunts at him and asked for his wife to be produced to him against the money. "I lost my temper and attacked him with a paper-cutter." A case was registered against him.
