PESHAWAR, Jan 7: Governor Iftikhar Hussain Shah has stressed the need for initiatives to ensure proper atmosphere in educational institutions with special focus on faculty development in all respects.

Presiding over a meeting of vice-chancellors of all the public sector universities of the province at the Governor House here on Friday, the governor called upon them to bring about a change in the attitude and outlook of students and the teaching community.

"We have to take concrete steps to marginalize and neutralize certain teachers and students from the influence of external political forces and hold them accountable for their irrelevant actions," he said and drew attention of the vice-chancellors to the political activities of certain students as well as teachers.

People involved in instigating students to fulfil their political aims should be taken to task, he said. He said that though new universities were already following the focussed approach to develop their respective disciplines, they should make efforts to introduce and encourage new means of education.

In this connection, he referred to the introduction of multiple discipline process, inter-disciplinary modules, language development as well as launching of online journals and said that teachers must remain conscious of market demands and new changes taking place in the education system globally.
