KARACHI, Jan 6: Immediate steps would be taken to bring improvement in the traffic flow on the University Road. All illegal U-turns would be done away with, illegal car parks in front of commercial buildings and centres would be controlled through the traffic police, and service roads would be restored.

Decisions in this regard were taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of the City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, and attended by the chairman SUPARCO and other officials. A decision was taken for constructing an overhead bridge near the Karachi University.

The city nazim directed concerned officials to take steps for implementation of the long-term traffic improvement plan to help ease the pressure of traffic on the University Road.

The EDO Transport, Mohammed Athar, informed the meeting that planning had been done for improvement of all roundabouts on the University Road. It was informed that the PIA would construct the road from Jail Road to Hasan Square.

It (PIA) was previously to build one from the Jail Chowrangi to the Safoora Goth. Construction work of road from Hasan Square to Safoora Goth will be taken up upon availability of funds.

The improvement of a road in Baldia was also examined. It was decided that Nazim Keamari Town, EDO Works and a SUPARCO representative would jointly examine the proposed plan. Steps would be taken in the light of these suggestions. - APP
