KARACHI, Jan 2: The Karachi Building Control Authority has generated a record-breaking Rs126 million on account of regularization of 11,000 cases of illegal buildings till December 31, 2004, which was the last date for regularization.

However, the City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, acceded to the KBCA's proposal for extending the deadline for another three months, till March 31, so that people may be provided with another opportunity to have their illegal constructions regularized.

This was stated by the Chief Controller of Buildings, Brig (Retd) A.S. Nasir, while talking to APP. He said that only on December 31 alone - the last date for submitting regularization cases - a record number of 377 cases were registered at counters, which witnessed a big rush of applicants.

Mr Nasir said the KBCA was given only three months for making the achievement as against eight months at its disposal in the regularization scheme of 2001 when 4,300 cases were submitted. He pointed out that during the current three-month period, the KBCA issued a record 37,000 notices to owners of illegal buildings. - APP
