ISLAMABAD, Dec 22: The People's Party Parliamentarians (PPP) members on Wednesday submitted three separate privilege motions to the National Assembly against four police officers for "misbehaving" with them at the Islamabad airport.

MNAs from Rawalpindi Raja Pervez Ashraf and Zamarrud Khan filed separate but similar motions under rule 78 of the Rules and Procedures for Conduct of Business in the National Assembly 1992, naming four police officials and demanded they should be summoned before the committee.

The PPP MNAs mentioned the names of SSP Rawalpindi Marwat Ali Shah, SP Akhter Hayat, SP Akhter Lalika and SP Waqar Chohan. They stated that the police officers "misbehaved rather tried to manhandle" them and did not allow them to enter the airport premises.

They said the police officers did not recognise them despite the fact that they showed their special security passes. "It is the insult of the elected representatives" and was a breach of their privilege. They stated that the public servants should not adopt such attitude with the people's representatives.

Another privilege motion against the police officers has been moved jointly by Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed, Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, Fauzia Habib, Ghulam Murtaza Satti and Naseem Akhtar Chaudhry.

The MNAs said the four police officers ordered their subordinates to baton-charge them. "This attitude and behaviour of the government servants with the elected representatives was beyond their jurisdiction and power. The matter is very serious and it should be referred to the privileges committee for punishment so that such incidents should not recur," the motion said.

Talking to Dawn, parliamentary secretary of the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) Izhar Amrohvi said the PPP members would also submit adjournment motions on the matter and highlight the "political victimisation" against the opposition members.
