BAHAWALPUR, Dec 22: Anti-Corruption Establishment additional director Dr Manzoor Ahmad Bajwa on Wednesday ordered arrest of five education department officials, including two assistant controllers of examinations, in a fake certificate scam.

The orders were passed after the preliminary inquiry into the case initiated on the application of Rana Izhar Hassan. According to the applicant, assistant controllers Muhammad Asghar and Abdul Wahid Ali, and other officials Taj Muhammad, Sadiq Ali and Khalid Iqbal were involved in the scam. Relevant police have registered a case.

BRICKLINING: The Punjab government will brick line 30,000 watercourses during the next four year under the national programme. This was stated by Punjab Agriculture Secretary Fayyaz Bashir at a meeting here on Wednesday. He said 1,700 watercourses would be brick lined during the current year. The DCOs of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan were present.

RE-ELECTED: Prof Dr Mujahid Rasool was re-elected president of the Islamia University's Academic Staff Association on Wednesday. Others elected were Dr Abdul Rehman Bokhari (vice-president), Prof Dr Shahid Naveed (secretary-general), Riaz Sindhar (joint secretary), Dr Mahmood Malik (finance secretary) and Dr Shahid Hassan Rizvi (publicity secretary).

DUBAI MINISTER: Dubai finance minister Sheikh Hamdan bin Raashid Al-Maktum reached here on Wednesday by his special plane on a private visit. He was received by Punjab minister Rana Qasim Noon and officials of the government. He is likely to stay for some days in Cholistan for hunting.
