LAHORE, Dec 16: The Lahore High Court on Thursday restrained the Allama Iqbal Town council from establishing a cattle market adjacent to the Sabzazar Colony.

The court also directed the town management to produce a timetable for the shifting of the slaughterhouse and the cattle market outside the city.

The order was issued on a writ petition moved by Sabzazar Welfare Society President Saeed Ahmad Aasi which contended that the slaughterhouse and the cattle market in the close proximity of the colony were a public nuisance and hazardous for health.

The court directed the Town Nazim that the cattle market should be confined to the Kot Kamboh area. The counsel submitted that the town administration had recently invited tenders for the annual cattle market although a petition against it and the slaughterhouse was already pending with the high court. - Correspondent
