SHIKARPUR, May 27: The Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party has announced to launch a social boycott of those “selfish and opportunist” politicians of the province, who support the government on the “anti-Sindh” projects of the greater Thal canal and Kalabagh dam.

This announcement was made by STPP chief Dr Qadir Magsi, while speaking at the District Bar Association here on Monday.

He warned that the people of Sindh would boycott the industrial products of Punjab if its political leaders and people did not support their genuine demands for withdrawal of the projects of the greater Thal canal and Kalabagh dam.

The STPP chief demanded of President Gen Pervez Musharraf to announce cancellation of the canal and dam projects and stop construction work on the former.

He termed both the projects parts of a conspiracy to destroy the agriculture-based economy of Sindh province.

Replying to a question, Dr Magsi said that his party favoured holding of general elections and transfer of power to elected representatives in order to restore democratic process in the country.

He demanded transfer power to a caretaker government, consisting of those four judges who had not taken oath under PCO, in order to conduct free and fair elections.

He demanded autonomy for the provinces in accordance with 1940’s Pakistan Resolution and Sindh’s fundamental rights of utilizing its income in the province.

He said that the people of the province did not want to live under the domination of Punjab establishment.

Replying to another question he said that his party would take part in the elections from the platform of Pakistan Oppressed Nations’ Movement.

He also spoke at the District Bar Council, Jacobabad.

SHOT DEAD: A man, Haji Khan alias Hajan Mehar, was shot dead by Tarit Jatoi tribesmen while he was working in his field near the Ruk village, Shikarpur District, on Sunday.

An FIR has been registered with the Lakhi police.
