SUKKUR, Dec 13: Drinking water being supplied by the taluka council to 10 localities of the city has been found unfit for human consumption. The water is said to be causing nausea, diarrhoea and other abdominal diseases.
This was revealed in a laboratory report issued by the EDO (health) Dr Khalid Hussain Shaikh to the district nazim, taluka nazim, DCO, TMO as well as officials of the Sindh health department on Saturday.
Potable water being supplied to Waritar Road, New Pind, Shikarpur Road, Baban Shah Colony and other areas of the city was harmful for human beings, and could cause abdominal complaints, particularly in children, the report said.
The water contained hard elements that were hazardous to human life, it added. The EDO, in his letter, asked civic authorities to seriously consider the findings, and discontinue supply of the toxic water.
Meanwhile, DCO Abdul Qadir Mangi has summoned a meeting of the district nazim as well as authorities of the taluka council and the health department later in the week to form a strategy to save the affected people.
MMA: The President in uniform was the fountain of all evils and the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy will make it difficult for him to remain in power after Dec 31. This was stated by MNA Asadullah Bhutto and the deputy opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly, MPA Nasarullah Shuji, while addressing a joint press conference at the Thull press club on Sunday.
They said the National Security Council was a disputed body and its decisions had no validity. They said issues of the national security and the dual-office for the president separate from each other.
The MMA leaders demanded that the Sindh governor and the home minister should step down immediately due to deteriorating law and order in the province. MNA Bhutto said the ARD leaders had attended public meetings of the MMA and that was why the MMA leaders would also attend their public meeting in Peshawar.
He said the life of Asif Ali Zardari was in danger as law and order in Sindh was ever worsening while the judges were not safe now. He said the MMA was against the construction of Kalabagh dam and the greater Thal canal and considered the two projects as anti-Sindh.
He termed the all parties conference called by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement a fraud. He expressed hope that Gen Musharraf would relinquish the post of the Chief of the Army Staff in the interest of the country.
