KARACHI, Dec 12: The Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami Karachi and a leader of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui, has criticized the military rulers for disgracing religious scholars and seminaries and for terming the veiling of women as awkward and outmoded, saying that the masses would not accept such rulers.

He was addressing a march organized by the MMA near the Quaid-i-Azam Mausoleum on Sunday. The march was taken out from the Idara Noor-i-Haq. Participants were carrying placards and banners with slogans inscribed against the "uniform" and the "US".

Dr Mairaj said that poverty, price hike and lawlessness were on the rise and considered the government responsible for the aggravating situation. He warned President Pervez Musharraf against violating the constitution, and demanded that he shed his uniform as per his pledge. Maulana Khan Mohammad Rabbani, Maulana Qazi Ahmed Noorani, and Maulana Abdul Rauf also spoke. - PPI
