Published December 11, 2004

KARACHI, Dec 10: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has imposed ban under Section 144 on setting up of bakra peeri (cattle markets) at any place other than the designated ones.

Official cattle markets have been established at Main Hub River Road near Willayat Ali Shah Mazar, Baldia Town; Main Super Highway, Scheme-33, Shah Latif Town, Sector-22, Bin Qasim Town; Bakra Peeri Road, Malir Town; Khurramabad Ground near Rice Godowns, Mehran Highway, Landhi; and Main Manghopir Road near Javadain Cement Factory, Site Town.

The step has been taken after receiving reports about unauthorized and illegal bakra peeries, cropped up at various places, which would cause traffic jams and sanitation problems. Besides, there is apprehension of violence and breach of peace, which may endanger human life and property.

NAZIM NAIMATULLAH KHAN SAID: "I am satisfied that it is necessary to take immediate measures to prevent disturbance of public peace and hazard to public health and danger to human life and property." The order, which has come into force with immediate effect, would remain in force for a period of 50 days provided withdrawn or modified earlier. --PPI
