VLADIKAVKAZ, Dec 7: Eleven Russian soldiers were killed over the past 24 hours in various attacks and mine explosions in another wave of violence in the war-torn rebel republic of Chechnya, military sources said on Tuesday.

The biggest single loss came when six interior ministry soldiers were killed and one injured when their truck was blown up on Monday by a remote controlled mine in Grozny, a Russian military source in Chechnya who asked not to be further identified told AFP.

Two soldiers were killed and three injured when another army truck was blown up Tuesday afternoon. Meanwhile gun battles killed two Russian soldiers and a sapper died while trying to defuse a bomb outside the capital, military sources said. -AFP
