MQM views on CM's visit rejected

Published December 7, 2004

LAHORE, Dec 6: Rejecting remarks made by MQM leader Altaf Husain in his address to a public meeting in Karachi, an official of the ruling PML said here on Monday Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi's visit to India had provided him with an opportunity to highlight Pakistan's point of view on various issues.

In a statement, Punjab PML secretary-general Chaudhry Zaheeruddin said Mr Elahi had effectively elaborated Pakistan's ideological and geographical frontiers as a result of which even the Indian Muslims felt encouraged.

He said the way Mr Elahi was received by his hosts was sufficient to establish that his point of view had been received well. Mr Zaheeruddin said the chief minister had underlined the need for resolution of all disputes through talks, which was the best approach expected of a political leader. He advised the critics that the chief minister's visit should be seen from a positive perspective.
