HYDERABAD, Dec 6: Speakers at the inaugural session of a free eye camp here on Sunday stressed the need for providing adequate medical facilities at basic health centres and Taluka hospitals for the benefit of rural population.

The three-day camp has been organized by the Sindh Sudhar Sangat in Jandho Khoso village. MNA Ameer Ali Shah Jamote said people of rural areas were not able to get medical treatment in private hospitals, therefore, RHCs, BHCs and taluka hospitals must be equipped to meet their medical requirements.

He lauded the efforts of NGOs for providing health facilities to people with insufficient means and urged the government to supplement efforts of NGOs. DG Ombudsman Sukkur, Mr Ghulam Rasool, called upon NGOs to direct their activities towards people of rural areas who had been deprived of basic facilities.

EDO community development Ibrahim Qureshi said the district government Hyderabad was planning to prepare a strategy for welfare of masses under the Social Service Programme and Citizens Community Board.

He called upon educated people of rural areas to come forward and participate in such development activities in the interest of their areas. He announced a donation of Rs25,000 for purchase of medicines and glasses for patients at the Eye camp.

Dr Nisar Memon while briefing about operations being conducted at the Eye camp said the latest methodology was being applied for prevention of blindness and appealed to philanthropists to come forward and encourage doctors and NGOs engaged in this noble task by providing financial assistance. The president of the Sindh Sudhar Sangat, Mr Faiz Khoso, Dost Ali Shah, Dr Maqbool Shah and Dr Chandi Ram also spoke on the occasion.

CROPPING PATTERN: Alternate cultivation of wheat and maize at the same place will go a long way in boosting crop production. This has been underlined in a research study done by Mansoor Khushik of the Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam.
