KARACHI, Dec 3: Sewage water gushing out of choked and worn-out drainage system has turned a road and a major portion of Sector 15-A/1 of Gulzar-i-Hijri (KDA Scheme-33) into a pool of dirty water , causing unhygienic conditions and polluting environment.

Residents of the New Lyari Cooperative Housing Society, located in the affected sector, complained that although the intolerable conditions prevailed over the last two months, the Gulshan Town administration had taken no step so far to drain out the sewage and restore hygienic conditions in their locality.

Accusing the builders of Bismillah Centre, the nearby housing complex having about 400 apartments, of being responsible for the problem, they pointed out that the complex did not have a proper drainage system. As such, they added, the entire sewage water from the 400 apartments made its way into the adjacent sector.

"One can see buffaloes going for a dip into the lake of sewage water. Risk of children's drowning is also there," one of the residents remarked, deploring that the concerned officials were delaying the measures to pump out the filthy water on one pretext or the other.

Besides causing health problems and presenting an ugly look, the dirty water was also causing extensive damage to the foundations of the houses located in the affected area, he added.

People of the area urged the city nazim to direct the concerned officials to take immediate measures in this regard and make the builders/owners of the complex to repair its drainage system.
