KARACHI: New meatless days from 8th

Published December 3, 2004

KARACHI, Dec 2: The Sindh government's order with regard to the meatless days would be effective in the city limits from Wednesday (Dec 8). The provincial government has decided to observe Wednesdays and Thursdays as meatless days.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held in the office of the DCO, with EDO Enterprises and Investment Promotion Raeesuddin Paracha in the chair. The meeting was attended, among others, by District Officers (agriculture and zoological), as well as the Meat Merchant Association's senior vice-chairman Siraj Qureshi and general secretary Iqbal Qureshi.

In order to implement the Sindh government's decision in an effective manner, the meeting decided that there would be a total ban on the sale of meat and slaughtering of animals on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The ban will, however, not be applicable on national days and religious festivals falling on meatless days.

The meeting resolved that hotels would not be allowed to offer any meat dish on Wednesdays and Thursdays. It also decided to form special teams which would visit different parts of the city to ensure that the ban was being observed in letter and spirit.
