Olympic head resigns over lie

DENVER, May 25: Sandra Baldwin, the first woman to head the U.S. Olympic Committee, resigned on Friday after it was reported that she lied in a biographical sketch about having a doctorate, the committee said.

Baldwin told USOC Chief Executive Officer Lloyd Ward that she would resign, effective immediately.

Her resignation follows a series of media reports that detailed inaccuracies in the biographical sketch related to her academic credentials.

“This is an emotional time for Sandy and the Olympic Family,” Ward said. “She did what she considered best for the USOC and the Olympic Movement. She took full responsibility for her actions and the mistakes in her biographical sketch.”—Reuters
