3 civilians injured in Waziristan

WANA, Nov 5: Militants on Friday planted three landmines targeting army convoys in the South Waziristan Agency. No casualty was reported from the military side , whereas three civilians were wounded when security forces opened fire at suspected militant positions.

Witnesses and official sources said the first explosion occurred in Makin area where two militants attempted to plant a mine on the road used by the military convoys. They, however, fled the scene when fumbled with the explosive device and it went off.

The explosion occurred shortly before a military convoy was expected to pass through the area, the sources said. The second explosion occurred near Sam when a military convoy was on its way to Asman Mianza between Luddha and Kanigoram. No casualty was reported from the landmine explosion.

Witnesses said that three civilians, including a ten-year-old boy, were wounded when the troops retaliated and fired in the area. The third explosion occurred near Wana Scouts camp at around 2.00 pm when a military convoy was moving towards Luddha. One vehicle was slightly damaged.

Militants also fired three rockets at the Wana scouts camp on Thursday night, two of which landed inside the camp and one hit a hotel. A mechanic from Dera Ismail Khan, who was staying at the hotel, was seriously wounded and was taken to a hospital.
