GUJRANWALA, May 25: Four police officials, including an assistant sub-inspector, were booked on Saturday by the People’s Colony police on the charge of keeping a trader in illegal custody and torturing him.

ASI Nawazish Cheema and three constables picked Nasir Mahmood from his house and detained him in People’s Colony police station lock-up where they tortured him. A bailiff raided the police station and recovered Nasir on a habeas corpus petition filed by his family. The court ordered police authorities to take punitive action against them. On it the SSP ordered registration of a case against them.

Meanwhile, Cantonment police registered a case against six Shia activists under MPO 16 on the charge of taking out a Zuljinnah procession without any legal authority on Saturday.

Accused Ibrar Husain, Ashraf, Razzaq Shah, Qamar Abbas Haideri and Mahdi Husain, etc., took out the Zuljinnah on the GT Road.

Police registered the case on the report of one Maulvi Muhammad Yasin.

BEATEN UP: An SHO and four constables were allegedly beaten up and stripped by drunkards in Ladheywala Warriach village on Saturday.

The police team, headed by SHO Inspector Mahmood Shah, raided a dera (outhouse) in the village to arrest some people who were reportedly drinking. As they entered the premises, the accused attacked the police party and beat them with clubs and tore their uniforms.

Police have registered a case against Usman alias Mano, Shahzad Pappu, Anwar Bawa and Zulfiqar.
