HYDERABAD, Oct 14: Labour councillor Rana Mehmood Ali Khan submitted a resolution to the convenor of the district council on Wednesday, calling upon President Gen Pervez Musharraf to quit the army post by December 31.

In the resolution, Mr Khan has said that on the Legal Framework Order, the National Assembly witnessed agitation for a year as a result of which neither any legislative work was done nor any welfare programme for the people formulated.

He said that following political negotiations, 17th amendment was adopt ed in the assembly under which, according to him, a person could not keep two government posts.

He said that after the passage of the amendment, President Musharraf in his televised address to the nation had said that he would leave the post of the chief of army staff by December 31 and retain only the office of the president.

He claimed that the president had also announced at a joint session of the parliament that he would give up the army post by December 31. He, however, said that the president was now trying to retain the post of the COAS in voilation of his promise.
