KARACHI, Oct 12: An acute water shortage continued to persist in various parts of the city on Tuesday, forcing residents of affected localities to either buy private water tankers or consume sub-soil water.

The hard-hit localities included Saadi Town, Saadat-i-Amroha Society, Clifton's Block 2, Ranchhore Line, Pakistan Chowk, Haquani Chowk, parts of Saeedabad, Mehmoodabad No 6, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Block 2, and Baghdadi's D.D. Chaudhry Road.

A resident of Saadat-i-Amroha Society, Fahim, complained that his locality was deprived of water for the last 25 days, leaving them with no choice but to purchase water from private water tankers at exorbitant rates. A similar complaint was received from the residents of Saadi Town.

Accusing the valvemen of their localities for creating the artificial water shortage, they demanded of the KWSB managing director to direct the officials concerned to restore the supply without any further delay, fearing they would remain deprived of water during Ramazan.

People residing on either side of Baghdadi's D.D. Chaudhry Road regretted that although acute shortage problem had been persisting in their locality for the last several months, the KWSB officials had failed to restore normal supply in spite of over two dozen complaints that had been lodged with them.

Complaining about the persisting water shortage, residents of Clifton's Block 2 claimed that despite the fact that officials of the KWSB knew that the main cause of the lingering water issue was due to giving away illegal connections to influential people, they seemed least interested in disconnecting such illegal connections.
