KARACHI, Oct 12: The Jodia Bazar Traders Association (JBTA) and the city government have finalized the wholesale price of various spices for Ramazan.

The prices of white cuminseed and clove have been fixed at Rs120 and Rs270 per kg, respectively, compared to Rs80 and Rs200 per kg last Ramazan. The wholesale price of black pepper has been fixed on the lower side to Rs120 from Rs145 per kg.

The price of red chilly whole and powder has been fixed at Rs64 and Rs70 as compared to Rs60 and Rs65 per kg. The rate of turmeric whole was increased to Rs60 from Rs58, while the rate of powder form was kept unchanged at Rs70 per kg.

No price change was seen in cinnamon and big cardamom from last year's rate of Rs80 and Rs320, respectively. The rate of small cardamom was lowered to Rs425 from Rs560 per kg fixed for Ramazan last year.

The rate of coriander whole and powder has been adjusted at Rs58 and Rs65, respectively, as compared to Rs60 and Rs60 per kg. JBTA President Jaffer Kudia said the prices of some items had gone up during the last one year because of rising rates in international markets coupled with increase in freight charges. He said the association had decided to set up a 'bachat bazaar' in Ramazan in order to provide spices at reduced rates.
