Double crown for Inayat

KARACHI, Oct 8: India's Inayat Khosla in a ruthless display demolished her counterpart Alisha Talwar 6-2, 6-0 to lift the girls' singles ITF world ranking junior tennis title on Friday at Karachi Gymkhana.

Inayat made her way into the final by cruising past top seed Amita Arudpragasam from Sri Lanka 6-0, 6-1 and Alisha made her entry into the final after Su Chit Yee of Myanmar had to retire trailing at 2-5.

The tennis fans expected a close match between both these Indian girls but sadly Alisha was completely off colour and surrendered tamely in only an hour. Leading 2-1, Inayat then broke Alisha's service and holding her own, raced to a 4-1 lead.

Alisha won one more game before losing the first set 2-6 which lasted 45 minutes. Down in the doldrums, Alisha went further into trouble losing her service as Inayat with splendid forehand drives and aggressive smashes was soon 3-0 ahead.

Inayat broke Alisha again and holding her own serve again was soon racing ahead 5-0 only a game away from victory. Although Alisha served again it was to be of no avail. Continuing to make numerous unforced errors Alisha lost the next set and the final 6-0 which lasted only an hour.

Earlier, Pakistan's Yasir Khan made a triumphant entry into the boys' singles final when he outclassed fifth seed Gursher Harika from India 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in a match that lasted three hours.

Playing some excellent tennis and attacking from the word go, Gursher won the first set 6-3 in only 22 minutes and led in the second 2-0 and 40/0 with service in hand.

Sensing that he was sinking fast, Yasir changed his strategy. He began sending high loopers over the net to his opponent who was getting ready for the kill. Gursher was completely taken aback and with frustration getting the better of him, he bagan to hit the ball into the net or smash the ball out of the court. These continuous errors only helped Yasir to win the second set 6-4 and draw abreast 1-1.

Yasir continued where he had left off in the second set. Gursher tried to match his wily opponent but with frustration creeping up once again, decided to hit his way out of trouble only to sink deeper into the mire as Yasir won the match 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to book his place in Sunday's final against second seed Jitin Bishnoi, who overcame third seed Vijit Sehgal also in three sets.

Using his serves and volleys for good measure, Vijit picked up the first set 6-3, only to see Jitin bounce back with some lovely cross court forehand and backhand smashes which caught Vijit on the wrong foot time and again.

In a neck and neck tussle in the final set Vijit had a great chance to book his berth in the final on break point leading 6-5. But Jitin a fighter to the core was not giving up in a hurry. Fighting back for every point he levelled the scores 6-6 then took the tiebreaker 7-3 to emerge a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) winner.
