SHIKARPUR, Oct 7: Local people observed a shutter-down strike and took out a procession, blocking the Khanpur-Shikarpur road for four hours, in protest against a robbery and to put pressure on police to arrest the culprits.
A group of robbers entered a cattle enclosure and, on gunpoint, robbed Rs48,000 from the owner, Chaudhary Mohammad Anwar, and also took away five cattle heads. Anwar and two of his sons, Asghar and Mohammad, who were seriously wounded by the bandits on offering resistance, were admitted to the Khanpur hospital.
Following the incident, residents observed a shutter-down strike to put pressure on the police, who registered a case. Led by Mohammad Saleem, Mohammad Yaqoob and Mohammad Afzal, the protesters also took out a procession and blocked the Khanpur-Shikarpur road.
RAID: The anti-car lifting cell of the Karachi police, with help of the Shikarpur police, raided the house of an alleged car lifter here late on Tuesday night. Police arrested the alleged car lifter, Kashif Abro, and his two accomplices, Abdul Ghaffar Abro and an unidentified accused.
A stolen car and two motorcycles were also recovered from their possession. The police took the accused and the vehicles to Karachi.
DIST COUNCIL: The district council has passed a resolution with majority votes, urging President Gen Pervez Musharraf to remain in army uniform and continue as the president as well as the chief of the army staff.
The resolution was jointly tabled by Syed Nadir Ali Shah, Lutfullah Bhayo, Taj Mohammad Bhutto and Mohammad Hayat Brohi in the council session here on Tuesday. Awam Dost Penal members opposed the resolution and raised the slogans of "go Musharraf go".
