PESHAWAR, Oct 6: A former DSP of Crimes Investigation Agency, Haji Shah Wali Khan, surrendered to the National Accountability Bureau on Tuesday after absconding for more than three years.

The accused was produced before an accountability court comprising Saleem Khan on Wednesday and was remanded in NAB custody for 15 days. The NAB requested the court to remand him to its custody, stating that he was required in a reference pertaining to possession of illegal assets.

The man was convicted in absentia by an accountability court on Aug 28, 2001, under section 31-A of the NAB Ordinance, 1999, and was sentenced to three years imprisonment.

He was declared a proclaimed offender and his perpetual arrest warrants were issued. According to the NAB, the accused, Wali Khan, possessed assets to the tune of Rs20.5 million, which were disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The arrest warrant was issued by the chairman, NAB, on Feb 9, 2001, but it could not be executed since he evaded arrest and also didn't appear in the court, which is a crime under section 31-A of NAB Ordinance and punishable up to three years rigorous imprisonment.
