KARACHI, Oct 5: A crime investigation department (CID) official was shot dead in Nazimabad on Tuesday. Police said Assistant Sub-Inspector Mehmoodul Hasan, 35, was getting his car serviced at a petrol station near the Board of Secondary Education office when two youth on a motorcycle pulled up, fired a volley of bullets at him and fled.
The wounded policeman was taken to the Aga Khan Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Sources said he had suffered multiple bullet wounds in his chest and head. The body was taken to the Edhi morgue.
Paposhnagar police said the was posted at the CID, Napier, and he lived near the PAF base, Mauripur. He had earlier served in the Orangi Town police station. A police official told Dawn that the deceased had played an active role in recent actions against banned groups and in the operation launched in the early 90's in the city. His brother Zahoorul Hasan and nephew Arshad, both policemen, were killed in an ambush in 1995 in Orangi Town.
KILLED: A young man was killed by unknown people in Baloch Colony on Monday night. Police said Saifullah, son of Khursheed, was kidnapped by unknown people from the jurisdiction of the Baloch Colony police station.
The kidnappers tortured him severely and left him near the Baloch Colony Bridge. He was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died. Police suspect enmity as the possible motive behind the killing.
SUICIDE: A man, Noor Mohammad, 45, committed suicide hanging himself in Landhi. He had five children.
CARJACKING: At least three cars and nine motorcycles were hijacked or stolen in the city on Tuesday. According to officials, three cars, (AGA-430), (AET-083) and (AAP-530), were taken away from the jurisdictions of the Gulshan, Taimoria and Ferozabad police stations. At least six motorcycles were hijacked and three stolen.
ACCIDENT: People set on fire four vehicles at Nagan Chowrangi on Tuesday night following an accident in which a Rangers official died and several others were injured.
Police said a speeding dumper hit two motorcyclists and a yellow cab at the traffic signal at the chowrangi. When people started beating the driver, someone from the dumper opened fire at the crowd, injuring one Adnan. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Following the incident, people gathered at the site and set fire to four dumpers passing through the area.
