ISLAMABAD, Oct 4: Chief Election Commissioner Irshad Hasan Khan has again reminded the members of the Senate, National Assembly and provincial assemblies to submit their asset reports at their earliest.

Under sub-section (2) of Section 42A of the Representation of the People Act, 1976, the parliamentarians and the members of the provincial assemblies are required to submit yearly statements of assets and liabilities of their own, their spouses and dependents for their publication in the official gazette as required.

The CEC was bound under the mandatory provisions of Section 42A to pass an order directing that such members should cease to function till such statements were submitted.

Attention of the members has also been drawn to sub-sections (4) of Section 42A and Section 25A of the Senate (Election) Act, 1975, which were to the effect that "where a member submits the statement of assets and liabilities under sub-section (1) which is found to be false in material particulars, he may be proceeded against under sections 82 and 62 of the respective Acts for committing the offence of corrupt practice". -APP
