NEW YORK, Sept 30: The two fund-raisers organized in the US for human development programmes in Pakistan have raised close to a million dollars.

The fund-raisers, one in Los Angeles and the other in New York during President Pervez Musharraf's visit here last week, were organized by the United Nations Human Development Programme and the National Commission for Human Development.

Pakistani Americans donated generously while they were treated to a grand musical rendition of 'Anarkali'. The funds will be used for education, literacy and health projects in the country.

In New York, over a thousand Pakistanis attended the 'Anarkali' show and paid as much as $1,000 to meet and be photographed with the president. In Los Angeles, the city council and the Mayor headed the fund-raiser held at the Universal City studios in Hollywood.
