GUJRANWALA, Sept 24: Cash, jewellery and other valuables worth around Rs2 million were taken away from the house of a landlord in Sheikh Rajana village on Friday.
Six outlaws entered the house of Riaz Ahmad by scaling the boundary wall. They locked the family in a room, collected Rs1.5 million in cash, jewellery worth Rs300,000 and other valuables and escaped with the booty. Meanwhile, three bandits forced their entry into the house of Ghulam Mustafa in Sharif Farm, Rahwali.
They tied the family members with ropes and took away cash and gold ornaments worth Rs100,000. Cash and jewellery was taken away from the house of Nazir Ahmad in Tetley village by four robbers. They beat up the family when they put up resistance.
COPS LOOTED: Four gunmen robbed two police constables of their valuables and a hired car on way to Chak Nizam on Friday. Constables Ahmad Sher and Mohsin Naeem were going to Chak Nizam by a hired car in compliance of a court order. The gunmen snatched an official gun, mobile phone and cash and drove away with the vehicle. Police have registered a case.
COMMUNITY BOARDS: No development scheme in a large number of union councils could be launched as no citizen community board could be formed due to which the government did not release funds.
At a meeting held here on Friday, Nazims and councillors of union councils expressed concern over the situation. They said 50 per cent union councils of the district were running without community boards as a result of funds earmarked by the government lapsed.
They urged the government to waive the condition of provision of 20 per cent funds by the union council concerned as people were already suffering due to price hike.
