VEHARI: 36 caught for power theft

VEHARI, Sept 22: The Mepco's Vehari circle caught red-handed 36 people while stealing electricity in various parts of the district during the last 24 hours.

According to a press release, the Mepco teams on a tip-off raided several areas, including Machiwal, 9-11/WB, Luddan and other rural localities, and caught them stealing power from main electric polls.

The raiding teams also recovered Rs300,000 fine from them while the police stations concerned were asked to register cases against them under the electricity act.

LOOTED: Four armed robbers deprived a landlord of Rs50,000 in cash, valuables, a mobile phone and also took away his car on Vehari-Mitro Road here on Wednesday. Mian Yawar Ghayyas was going to his house by car when armed robbers intercepted him near the Metro police station. The robbers threw the landlord out of the vehicle near Sahiwal and drove away with his car. Mitro police are looking into the matter.
