MITHI, May 24: The District Council, Tharparkar, has demanded that Thar be declared calamity-hit area and grant the growers the remission of ADBP loans.

A number of resolutions were adopted at the council’s meeting held here on Thursday and Friday.

The members called for the construction of Bhalwa-Marvi Jo Khoh road, a library and a rest house near Bhalwa.

Other resolutions urged the government to take measures against widespread cases of theft, impose a ban on the cultivation of Gauchar land, make the Mithi Girls College functional, streamline the schedule caste scholarship system, allocate reserve seats for minorities, provide stipends to poor minority families from Baitul Maal, and provide development funds to the union council.

The district council session urged the government to send mobile medical teams to the areas where diseases are on the rise. It also sought streamlining of the zakat distribution system.

One of the resolutions demanded launching of projects like tube wells, small dams and wells, to ensure adequate water supply to certain areas.

The meeting called for the repair of school buildings and opening of more schools and dispensaries in the district.
