PESHAWAR, May 24: NWFP Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Law Athar Minnallah has termed the introduction of new local government system a great revolutionary step, saying the government for the first time devolved the political, financial and administrative powers to the grass-root level in the country.
“Now, it is the utmost responsibility of the elected representatives to ensure the successful implementation of the system by playing their due role in a right manner and foil negative designs of the vested interest,” he said, while talking to a 23-member delegation of union council Nazims of Swabi district here on Thursday
In order to remove the misunderstandings and concerns of the elected members and streamline the local government system, the minister said that soon a convention of public representatives of all tiers would be held in every district.
Responding to concerns of elected members for ignoring them in the development process, he said that the consultative committee for the purpose had already been formed to prioritize the schemes according to the needs and aspirations of the people.
