KARACHI: Muttahida man dies

KARACHI, Sept 16: An under-trial prisoner died during treatment at a private hospital in North Nazimabad on Thursday. Following his death, SHO Shakil Ahmed of the Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan, inquiry officer SI Naeem , and ASI Ismail Shaikh have been suspended by the CCPO.

The home minister has ordered an inquiry into the matter and assigned the task to SSP Sanaullah Abbasi.

Town investigation officer North Nazimabad DSP Kunwar Asif told Dawn said that 32-year-old Amir Waheed alias Imran alias Amir Pully had suffered a bullet wound in his leg in an exchange of fire with the police in Block-D North Nazimabad on Sept 10.

He was on a motorcycle along with his associate Maqsood when police tried stop them. They opened fire and tried to escape by opening fire at the police. Police returned the fire injuring Amir. An FIR (273/04) under Section 353/324 and 274/04 under Arms Ordinance was registered against him at the Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan police station.

Amir was taken to the Abbasi Hospital from where he was discharged after providing treatment. On intervention of his family who had approached the Sindh Home Minister, Amir was admitted to the Ziauddin Hospital North Nazimabad.

The CCPO Tariq Jamil told Dawn that Amir had a kidney ailment. On Thursday, he died at the ICU. TIO North Nazimabad told Dawn that Amir, along with three accomplices, was awarded death sentence for being involved in a firing case.
