KARACHI, May 24: A silent protest demonstration by writers, poets, intellectuals, political activists and trade union workers was staged on Friday from Regal Chowk to Karachi Press Club in condemnation of the threatening posture of the Indian army on the Line of Control (LoC) and all along Pakistan’s international border.

The protest was also against international and local terrorism and continuous carnage of minorities in India, specially in Gujarat.

The demonstration was held under the banner of the Sindh Urban and Rural Alliance (SURA) and was joined by the Mazdoor Kissan Party (MKP).

President MKP, Fatehyab Ali Khan, later told newsmen at Press Club that Pakistan should ask the UN Security Council to post its observers on both sides of the LoC in order to check the veracity of Indian allegations as well as continued heavy shelling of the civilian population in Azad Kashmir.

He said that cross-border terrorism takes places only where boundaries are settled between the countries. “The LoC is not a settled boundary,” Fatehyab noted.

He said it had been proved beyond doubt that the Kashmiris did not want to stay under Indian hegemony and, therefore, a plebiscite to determine the wishes of the Kashmiri people was the only solution.

Fatehyab said India was trying to cripple Pakistan economically by moving its navy in the Arabian sea. — PPI
