NOWSHERA: Nazims plan long march

Published September 15, 2004

NOWSHERA, Sept 14: All nazims and naib nazims of town and union councils will participate in a long march to Islamabad on Sept 16 to protest against the Mutahidda Majlis-i-Amal government's interference in local government's affairs.

This was stated by representatives of local government at a press conference here on Tuesday. Those who spoke at the press conference were: Amangarh town nazim Amjad Azam, Jehangira town nazim Mumlikat Khan, Pabbi town nazim Babu Amir Mohammad and their naib nazims.

They claimed that the MMA government had usurped rights and authority of the local government and handed over powers to bureaucracy in violation of the local government ordinance.

They accused the provincial government of interference in the financial, administrative and other affairs of the local government and said that all nazims and naib nazims would take part in the long march to Islamabad on Sept 16.
