Larson, Aziz discuss $3 billion package

ISLAMABAD, Sept 13: United States Under Secretary of State for Economic, Business and Agriculture Affairs Alan Larson on Monday discussed a $3 billion economic package and funds for defence co-operation, education, health and social sector with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.

Talking to Mr Larson, who had called on him at Prime Minister's House, Mr Aziz expressed appreciation for the economic support from the US and said the funds would be utilized in the health, education and services sectors.

The prime minister said the government was getting ready for second-generation reforms in tax, education, administration, legal and other fields to ensure good governance.

Mr Larson appreciated the improvement in macro-level economy and assured the prime minister of continued US assistance. He said the $3 billion package for five years was a manifestation of US commitment to economic growth in Pakistan. -APP
