MIRANSHAH, Sept 9: Tribal representatives in the North Waziristan tribal agency on Thursday signed an agreement with the administration, pledging that they would not provide shelter to foreign militants.

Under the agreement, any tribesman found guilty of breaching the accord would pay Rs5 million fine, would be expelled from the agency and his house would be demolished.

The agreement was signed at a jirga which was addressed by Assistant Political Agent Mohammad Riaz Mahsud who said that no tribesman would be allowed to provide shelter to foreigners.

Mr Mahsud said that if foreigners wanted to live here peacefully, they should register themselves in accordance with the amnesty plan announced by the federal government.

He said peace was vital for development of the area, adding that development schemes were being completed rapidly in the area and for this purpose Rs500 million had been allocated.
