Dead terrorist not Mayo: family

Published May 24, 2002

VEHARI, May 23: The family of Liaquat Mayo, who was killed along with Riaz Basra in an ‘encounter’ with police on May 14, refused on Thursday to receive the body, claiming it was not of their kin.

Police said Mayo’s family members reached Vehari from Kehror Pucca for the identification of the body.

District Headquarters Hospital’s Dr Abdullah and tehsil municipal officials exhumed the body of Mayo in the presence of Civil Judge Ghulam Mujtaba Baloch.

Father Sona Khan, brother Abdul Rashid besides mother and sister refused to receive the body, claiming it was not Mayo’s, the police said.

However, the police stuck to their claim that it was Mayo’s body.

The family of Shakil alias Hamza had already refused to receive the body despite police claims of identification.

Only the relatives of Riaz Basra have received the body.
