BADIN, Sept 6: Pandemonium marred a meeting of the district council here on Monday when a member, Mohammad Essa Mallah advocate, tabled a resolution against the attitude of district police officer Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh.

The rumpus was set off when many members, including convener Mirza Sohail Akbar, opposed the resolution and passed remarks in favour of the district police chief.

Mr Mallah, supported by Nazim A.K. Channa and Ghanwar Khan Lashari, alleged that many people had lost their livelihood because of the measures taken by the DPO, which included ban on retail sale of gutka and operating cable TV in commercial places.

They claimed that the DPO, whose attitude towards council members was not respectful, was not even willing to listen to suggestions of the members. However, Khalifo Qasim union council nazim Khalil Bhurgari, woman councillor Olga advocate and others, while appreciating the steps taken by the DPO against criminals, claimed that the district had witnessed a decrease in the crime rate.

Finding themselves in a weak spot, the three members decided to stage a walk-out and the resolution was not passed. Meanwhile, the district council unanimously passed another resolution against registration of immigrants for issuance of CNICs.
