GUJRANWALA, Sept 2: The Baitul Maal authorities cancelled on Thursday booklets of 40,000 destitute, who were receiving half-yearly compensation on an ad hoc basis. A notification to this effect has been issued.
Sources said the Baitul Maal issued booklets to the destitute on an ad hoc basis to utilize the funds. The government did not release extra funds for the purpose during the current fiscal due to which the department had cancelled these booklets, they added.
When contacted, Baitul Maal district officer Asif Jehangir said 26,584 destitute had been receiving compensation from the department on a regular basis. However, he said, the booklets of those who were temporarily receiving compensation had been cancelled by the government after exhaust of extra funds.
Meanwhile, the affected people have protested cancellation of their booklets and demanded that the government should prepare the lists of all destitute without any discrimination. They also urged the government to enhance funds for them.
INJURE: Eight women were among 10 people, who were injured when the roof of a house at Langianwali village in Wazirabad caved in on Thursday. Reports said women were filling mud in the cracks of the house when a beam broke and the roof caved in.
As a result, Razia Bibi, Manzooran Bibi, Safia Bibi, Bushra Bibi, Asmat Bibi, Salma Bibi, Safia Bibi and Memona Bibi, besides Chaudhry Faiz Ahmad and a minor boy, Shamim Ahmad, were injured.
The people of the area took them out of the debris and removed them to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital where the condition of Asmat Bibi was stated to be serious. She was later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.
