QUETTA, Aug 31: Three persons were killed and 11 others injured on Tuesday in a bomb blast at a sweetmeat shop in Kalat town, some 145 kilometres from here. The powerful blast, which occurred at around 11.40am, shook the entire town.

It completely destroyed the sweetmeat shop besides damaging some adjacent shops. Power supply to Kalat town remained suspended for several hours.

"All the three persons, including the owner of the shop, died on the spot," Provincial Home Secretary Abdul Rauf Khan said, adding that the explosive device had been planted inside the shop.

Police sources in Kalat said that the dead included two officials of a sensitive agency who were sitting in the shop.
