BAHAWALPUR, Aug 30: A two-member reconciliation committee has recommended the release on bail an alleged accused involved in a blasphemy case registered against him last month on the complaint of a lawyer of Chak 23/BC here.

This was given out by JUP's (Noorani group) reconciliation committee member and Ittehad Bainul Muslimeen executive council member Maulana Haq Nawaz Qamar while talking to newsmen here on Monday.

He said that the reconciliation committee was constituted during a meeting of ulema of both the sects in the office of DSP (Legal) some one month back. The meeting had unanimously decided that there should be a compromise between the complainant and the accused and this should be facilitated by a two-member committee comprising MPA Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar and Haq Nawaz Qamar.

The Maulana said that in the light of the decision the committee undertook the task and met with accused Muhammad Amjad Khalid at the new central jail, Bahawalpur. He said the accused informed the committee members that he (Khalid) had committed a mistake by distributing a pamphlet as he was not aware of the real facts. The accused also repented and tendered his apology from the Muslims.

Mr Qamar said the committee members again met with the accused in jail when complainant Sohail Kamran sought surety of his positive attitude in future. At this, the alleged accused assured that he would not repeat such unwise action in future.

Bahawalpur JAH amir Prof Muzzafar Ali Zafar (retired) had raised the issue of the arrest of Amjad Khalid at a press conference about a week back and demanded of the police to withdraw the case, which he had described as baseless.
