NEW DELHI, Aug 25: India and Kuwait on Wednesday signed three agreements including an extradition treaty and another to boost economic, political and security cooperation between the two, a foreign ministry statement said.

The agreements were signed by visiting Kuwait Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and his Indian counterpart Natwar Singh in New Delhi after talks late Wednesday.

The statement quoting Singh said both sides had exchanged views "on a number of bilateral, region and international issues of mutual interest." Foreign ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said the situation in Iraq and United Nations reforms were among the topics discussed.

"Trade, investment, industrial cooperation particularly information technology as well as energy came in for particular mention," Sarna told reporters in New Delhi.

Both ministers also signed an agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, the foreign ministry statement added.

Another government statement said Al-Sabah signed an agreement with Commerce Minister Kamal Nath to bolster trade and economic links between India and the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states. The GCC groups Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. -AFP
