ISLAMABAD, Aug 17: The auction of the spectrum of Wireless Local Loop (WLL) in Islamabad and Rawalpindi telecom regions on Tuesday fetched Rs1.512 billion. The bidding was presided over by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority chairman Shahzada Alam Malik.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL) gave the highest bid of Rs290 million for one block of 1.9 GHz in Islamabad region, while the other two blocks were taken by DV Com and Telecard at the same price.

In the frequency of 450 Mz, three carriers were available. Out of these, two were obtained by Great Bear International at the highest bid of Rs22 million each, while the PTCL got the third carrier.

World Call won the only one block available in the spectrum of 479 MHz at the highest bid of Rs7 million. In the spectrum of 3.5 GHz, Burraq Telecom gave the highest bid of Rs7 million, while the other six blocks were taken by Telecard, DV Com, PTCL, Warid WLL, Microtech Links and Cyber Internet at the matching cost.

Out of three blocks in the spectrum of 1.9 GHz in Rawalpindi region, PTCL won one block at the highest bid of Rs199 million, while the remaining two blocks were secured by the other firms.

Out of three carriers in the spectrum of 450 MHz, the highest bid of Rs64 million came from World Call which got one carrier, while DV Com and Great Bear each got one carrier at the matching cost.

Only one block was available in the spectrum of 479 MHz which was won by World Call against the highest bid of Rs17 million. Out of seven blocks in the spectrum of 3.5 GHz, one each was taken by Tele card, D.V. Com, PTCL, World Call, Burraq Telecom, Warid WLL and Sachal Technologies for Rs580,000.
