QUETTA, Aug 12: A heavy exchange of rocket fire took place between unknown attackers and personnel of the Frontier Corps in the outskirts of Kohlu township, some 450km east of here, on Thursday.

"At least 20 rockets exploded in Kohlu area," police sources told Dawn by phone, adding that the rockets exploded in the early hours of the morning. However, no loss of life or property was reported.

"All rockets landed and exploded in an open place and the FC posts remained safe," the sources said. They said that the miscreants fired rockets at brief intervals from Jandran mountains, targeting FC posts established to check subversive activities.

The sources said that the personnel of the Frontier Corps deployed at the posts retaliated and returned rocket fire forcing the attackers to escape. The heavy exchange of fire continued for over an hour.

SUI: Meanwhile, according to reports from Sui, unknown armed men fired rockets at an under-construction police station in Jugi Dynari area of Jaffarabad district close to Sindh-Balochistan border.

"Six rockets were fired, targeting the under-construction police station," a senior officer of Jaffarabad police confirmed when contacted by Dawn by phone.

He said that five rockets exploded in an open place while one landed near the under-construction building of the station, damaging a portion of the building. However, no person was wounded or killed in the rocket attack, sources said, adding that the attackers escaped when police returned fire.
