KARACHI, Aug 10: The government has failed to pay compensation to the victims of last monsoon rains and flood as the provincial relief committee is short of over Rs67.823 million.

In the last monsoon, over 17,738 houses were fully damaged while 2,994 houses were partially damaged. The provincial relief commissioner had sanctioned Rs5000 as compensation to each family, whose house was fully damaged and Rs3000 to the victims, whose houses were partially damaged.

The total amount required for payment to the affectees of the last rains was over Rs97.67 million. However, as only Rs29.849 were available for payment, the affectees were not yet provided relief.

RAIN GAUGE SYSTEM: The government has decided to install rain gauge meters in all important taluka headquarters to maintain correct record and data of rains. The ministry of defence has provided 51 rain gauge meters to the additional relief commissioner of Sindh government for installation at vintage points in important talukas.

The record would help the administration to prepare itself before hand to meet the monsoon situation and save people from devastation. It was decided that the data would be sent monthly to the met office for maintaining and publication of climatic record.
