ISLAMABAD, Aug 9: A Supreme Court lawyer, Habibul Wahab Khairi, on Monday submitted a petition to the Lahore High Court (LHC), Rawalpindi bench, seeking protection of his life and property and action against the police officials for allegedly protecting the culprits, who had attempted to kill him on July 29.

Through the petition, filed under Article 199 of the Constitution, Mr Khairi has demanded that New Town police station SHO Aslam Goraya and sub-inspector Abdul Khaliq be punished according to law for not fulfilling their duties and for not preparing the complete medico-legal report.

Mr Khairi, in his petition, stated that his medical check-up was carried out only on the order of a first class magistrate Sahibzada Naqeeb Shahzad. The petitioner said a doctor at Holy Family Hospital examined him and called for x-rays of the skull. However, the doctor's advice was not implemented by the sub-inspector. Later, the SHO took the application for registration of an FIR and provisional medico-legal report in his custody.

In his petition, Mr Khairi has asked the court to take appropriate steps for protection of his life and property. He has also prayed to the court to direct the police to register the FIR and present the report to the court after complete investigations.
