SUKKUR: Soomro urges dialogue

Published August 6, 2004

SUKKUR, Aug 5: Former National Assembly Speaker Ellahi Bux Soomro has stressed the need for resolving the Balochistan crisis through dialogue as army operation can harm national integrity.

He observed this while talking to journalists in Thul on Thursday after a condolence meeting with union council nazim Mehboob Soomro and civil judge Mohammad Ibrahim Soomro.

Mr Soomro maintained that nothing would be achieved through the operation in Balochistan. He said Baloch leaders should also be inducted in a committee formed to negotiate with Balochistan people, otherwise, the committee would not be able to resolve the issue.

He pointed out that construction of a cantonment in Dera Bugti and the Gwadar port had been started without the consent of Baloch people.

Mr Soomro observed that there was no need for a cantonment and if the government wanted to construct the cantonment, it should take Baloch leaders into confidence.
