KARACHI, Aug 3: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the deputy attorney general and the advocate-general of Sindh for Aug 10 on a petition challenging the detention of a Pakistani arrested on suspicion of being a wanted Al Qaeda leader , Abu Moasab Arochi.

Ms Jamila submitted that her spouse Abdul Karim Mehboob, a Pakistani from Turbat, was arrested by the law-enforcement agencies on June 12, from house No. R-1851, Block 14, F B Area.

Her counsel Khawja Naveed Ahmed stated that there was a claim from the interior minister, Faisal Saleh Hayat, that the petitioner's spouse is a nephew of the most wanted Al-Qaeeda leader, Khalid Sheikh, for whom the US government had announced a reward of US$ 1,000,000.

The law-enforcement agencies arrested Abdul Karim on a mistaken identity under the name of Abu Moasab Arochi, his counsel stated, adding the detainee is a Pakistani, who was settled in Kuwait and who kept on visiting Pakistan from time to time and he has four daughters, Zaib, Bushra, Huda, Yusra, and a son, Abir.

He submitted that since the day of his arrest, neither he had been produced before any court, nor he had been released. He alleged that the interior ministry knows the whereabouts of the detainee.

Citing the interior ministry, the Sindh home department as respondents, the court was prayed that the detainee be produced before court and charges against him be disclosed.

SHC's division bench, comprising Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Gulzar Ahmed, after a preliminary hearing, issued notices to the DAG, the AG and ordered them to make a definite statement about the detention of Abdul Karim Mehboob.

The arrest of Abu Mosab Arochi was shown after raids in F B area besides as many as nine activists of the Jundullah were arrested from Al-Falah area for their alleged links with Al Qaeda and in connection with the attack on Corps Commander motorcade. -PPI
